GENERAL CAMP INFORMATION
Camp Lohikan is a private, coed, sleepaway summer camp for children 6 to 15 years old. The camp is situated on 1200 acres in the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania. We’re about 2.5 hours from New York City and 3 hours from Philadelphia.
60+ YEARS SAME FAMILY OWNERSHIP
Camp Lohikan has been owned and operated by the Buynak family since 1957. For over 60 years we have provided a safe, nurturing camp environment where children are encouraged to try new things, learn new skills, make friends, and most of all have FUN!
Amazing things happen when kids are having the time of their lives! In our supportive camp community campers receive lots of positive reinforcement and come home after camp with more independence, stronger self-confidence, and enhanced social skills. It’s an experience with benefits that last a lifetime!
What sets Camp Lohikan apart from other summer camps is our program and staff. Nowhere else will you find a summer program with more challenging, exciting activities than Lohikan. Campers get to choose from 65+ arts, sports, and adventure activities every day! And they’re surrounded by highly skilled staff members who enjoy working with children. At least 50% of Lohikan’s staff are experienced, returning staff members. Our key management staff has over 200 years of combined camp experience!
FIRST-TIME CAMPER SPECIALISTS
First-time campers receive special attention at Camp Lohikan. Each new camper is assigned to a senior member of our staff who monitors the camper’s well being on a daily basis and keeps parents apprised of their child’s progress. This senior staff member is a camp professional, typically a parent, and usually a teacher in the off season. Our success with first-time campers is one of Lohikan’s hallmarks and we back it up with a Tuition Refund Guarantee!
THE ULTIMATE ELECTIVE PROGRAM
Older campers (5th grade and older) get to choose all of their activities on a weekly and daily basis. It’s the ultimate in individualized scheduling! Not only do you get to choose all of your activities… You’re guaranteed to get the activities of your choice! Imagine designing a schedule where you can specialize in as many activities as YOU want… or travel with your friends and try every one of the 65+ activities we offer. It’s the BEST!!!
1st-4th GRADE PROGRAM
Our younger campers travel with their bunkmates and counselors according to an activity schedule that includes all of our arts, sports and adventure activities. Certain activity sites offer electives which allow even younger campers choices in their activity schedule! Close supervision is provided by the cabin counselors, division directors and program staff throughout the day.
The PERFECT TEEN PROGRAM
The elective program and the 65+ daily activity choices are only two reasons why Lohikan’s program is so popular with teens. Exciting evening activities, “Teen Only” events, trips, and special camp events round out the perfect teen program. Favorites include: Senior Lake Beach Parties, Camp-a-Palooza Rock Concerts, Senior Socials and DJ Dance Parties, Senior Trips, Senior Paint Parties, Senior Tiki Bivouac Cookouts, Senior Movies, Senior Snack Bar & Game Room, Senior Experiment Week, and lots more!
Teenagers entering junior and senior year in high school are given the opportunity to continue their camp experiences by participating in Camp Lohikan’s Junior Staff Leadership Program. This program provides 16-17 year olds with hands-on training in child care and counseling, instructor skills, and leadership. Junior staff members attend training sessions dedicated to these subjects as well as sessions addressing the college application process and the incorporation of the Junior Staff Leadership Program. In addition, junior staff members earn community service credit and can obtain lifeguard certification while participating in the program. Lastly, graduates of the Summer Leadership Program are guaranteed a counselor position at Camp Lohikan the following summer.
