The Summer Youth Practicum in Alaska offers Native American high school students (grades 10-12) an immersive educational opportunity focusing on the interdisciplinary study of natural resource management and Indigenous knowledge. This initiative by NAFWS strives to foster understanding of the symbiotic relationship between natural resource management and cultural heritage, motivating youth towards further education and careers in environmental fields. The program is scheduled for July 16-21, 2025, during which travel arrangements, meals, and accommodations are provided. Students arrive at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and are escorted to the Alaska Pacific University campus by program staff. Although chaperone travel is not supported, detailed travel guidance and parental support systems are in place to ensure smooth journeys. The Alaska SYP is committed to nurturing Native American students’ academic and cultural growth within a supportive and hands-on learning environment.
