Linking Camps and Campers Since 1995
The North Carolina Zoo’s Veterinary Science Camps provide young enthusiasts with hands-on experience in veterinary medicine. The camps cater to two groups: Junior Camps for students entering grades 7-9 and Senior Camps for high school seniors and early college students. Junior Camps are single-day sessions focusing on fundamental veterinary techniques like administering CPR and suturing, conducted mostly at the Zoo’s veterinary hospital complex. Senior Camps span two days and include overnight stays, where participants explore advanced veterinary practices for exotic animals. Admission to each camp is limited to 22 campers who must submit an application with academic records and pay processing fees. Tuition rates are set at $375 for members and $455 for non-members for the Junior level, and $590 for members and $670 for non-members for Seniors. Campers convene at the Valerie H. Schindler Wildlife Learning Center in Asheboro, NC, under the supervision of NC State veterinary students who serve as guides. The camp adheres to health and safety protocols to protect attendees.
