The SHPEP program at UAB provides a comprehensive six-week summer experience aimed at increasing diversity in the health professions. Running from early June to mid-July, it offers freshmen and sophomores from diverse backgrounds academic and clinical training to prepare them for health science careers. The program includes daily activities focused on improving scientific knowledge, healthcare topics, and career readiness through workshops and one-on-one mentoring. Hands-on clinical practice involves shadowing and immersive scenarios facilitated by UAB’s top health schools. Residential living on campus and numerous social events create a supportive community environment. Financial support includes stipends, meal provision, and travel assistance. This program is particularly suited for students interested in medicine, dental, optometry, and physical therapy career paths.
