SHPEP, the Summer Health Professions Education Program, is a comprehensive six-week program aimed at preparing young scholars for future roles in health professions. Sponsored by Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and its allied schools, the program is open to students as early as 6th grade and emphasizes diversity, teamwork, and cultural competence. Participants engage in hands-on, multimodal learning activities including simulations, role play, and community service, which promote critical thinking and resilience. The program’s goal is to empower students with the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for health equity and work collaboratively across professions to improve community health outcomes.
