Linking Camps and Campers Since 1995
The SMMILE program is designed to provide high school students with an immersive marine mammal science summer experience, focusing on hands-on learning and engagement with real-world marine biology research. Taking place on islands like Oʻahu and Molokaʻi, it offers activities ranging from boat surveys and dolphin identification to lectures from local experts and interactive use of scientific tools such as drones and hydrophones. The program also integrates cultural education about Hawaiian marine ecosystems, enhancing students’ connection to the environment. Throughout the week, students develop friendships, gain confidence, and explore potential careers in marine science and veterinary specialties related to aquatic life. With dedicated instructors and a variety of educational opportunities, SMMILE creates a memorable and inspiring camp that motivates participants to pursue further studies and work in marine biology.
