Linking Camps and Campers Since 1995
The Premedical Summer Institute (PSI) offered by Baylor College of Medicine is a focused four-week summer program aimed at undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds in medicine, designed to bolster their medical school application strengths. This comprehensive program immerses students in advanced science and communication coursework, alongside hands-on clinical learning opportunities at the Texas Medical Center. Students participate in detailed human anatomy and physiology studies, integrated with clinical practice through lectures, dissections, and demonstrations. The program also includes a Preceptorship experience, where students shadow physicians and engage in educational activities such as seminars and reflective assignments to foster an understanding of medical research and healthcare delivery.
Beyond academics, PSI provides enrichment through expert talks from medical professionals and community leaders, informative sessions about navigating medical school admissions, and various social events like dinners and excursions to Houston attractions. These activities encourage camaraderie and provide a balance of intellectual and social engagement. The program covers all costs related to tuition, housing at Rice University, and most meals, creating a comprehensive environment conducive to academic and personal growth.
