Linking Camps and Campers Since 1995
Nestled within Theodore Roosevelt National Park’s South Unit, Peaceful Valley Ranch is a historic site that dates back to 1883, making it one of North Dakota’s earliest dude ranches. Initially a cabin, the ranch expanded with a house built circa 1885. Its ownership transitioned to the Olsen family in 1915, who turned it into a popular tourist spot with horseback riding, camping, and roundup events. When the government took over in 1936, the ranch served as a hub for various public work programs and later became the park’s first headquarters. Although guided rides ceased in 2014, the ranch remains a vibrant historic attraction where visitors can enjoy its preserved buildings, beautiful landscapes, and educational exhibits reflecting its rich ranching history.
