Linking Camps and Campers Since 1995
PCOM Georgia’s Summer Math and Science Academy is a focused two-week summer program for high school students in the Atlanta area, scheduled from June 14 to June 25, 2021, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily. It offers up to 50 motivated participants exposure to a wide range of healthcare professions led by mentors from osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, and biomedical science fields. The academy, supported by grants and organizational funding, is free and geared especially toward underrepresented groups such as Latinx/Hispanic and BIPOC students. Campers engage in interactive healthcare and research activities and work closely with mentors to study specific diseases, culminating in presentations at a graduation event. The program also emphasizes practical skills like productivity, educational guidance, career planning, financial literacy, volunteering, and professional development including resume building and interview preparation. The format may be virtual with potential on-site experiences at PCOM Georgia’s Suwanee campus based on public health guidelines.
