Linking Camps and Campers Since 1995
The Minnesota Summer Learning Programs aim to address the loss of academic and physical capabilities often seen during summer, known as the summer slide. Students frequently regress in reading and math skills and gain weight over the break. To prevent this, Minnesota provides multiple educational resources and activities. There is a structured summer reading program with books tailored to student grade levels and interests, facilitated by local libraries that enrich this experience with educational incentives. For math, a free Summer Math Challenge targets students from grades 1 through 7 with online daily exercises to reinforce math concepts learned during the school year. Additional academic enrichment is available through resources like Reach for the Stars and 21st Century Community Learning Centers which offer a range of programs before and after school or during summer. These programs collectively strive to provide children with meaningful, skill-building summer opportunities in an accessible format.
