Linking Camps and Campers Since 1995
The Lawndale Summer Medical Project provides a unique 4 to 5-week summer opportunity for senior pre-med and first-year medical students to gain practical experience by working closely with Christian healthcare professionals in an urban community with significant medical needs. Participants reside with host families within the Lawndale/Little Village neighborhoods to experience cultural immersion and attend community worship services. The program offers mentoring opportunities, including workshops and personal interactions with clinicians that cover key healthcare topics. Active student involvement includes leading home visits and weekly health fairs to enhance chronic disease care and community health outreach. Weekly group reflection, rest days, and collective reading sessions support participant personal growth focusing on comprehensive patient care. Scheduled for July annually, with applications open in late fall through mid-April, LSMP prepares future healthcare providers for service in urban multicultural settings through immersive learning and practical engagement.
