Linking Camps and Campers Since 1995
The Keeper-in-Training Camp at Maryland Zoo provides an exceptional opportunity for middle and high school students to explore the responsibilities and experiences of a zookeeper. This intensive program includes interactive animal care workshops, exclusive behind-the-scenes access, and encounters with ambassador animals, allowing campers to learn about animal welfare on a practical level. Designed for grades 6 to 12, the camp is divided into Jr. Keeper sessions for younger teens and full Keeper sessions for older teens. These sessions span three days over summer, with camp hours from morning till mid-afternoon on weekdays. Aftercare services are optionally available to extend the day by one hour. Families can benefit from discounts through existing zoo memberships at specific levels. This program is perfect for students interested in wildlife, conservation, and engaging directly with zoo professionals.
