The IVS Specialty Clinical Mentorship Program is an annual summer internship tailored for veterinary students in their first or second year, facilitated by Iowa Veterinary Specialties. With admission limited to eight candidates selected through a competitive application process by Dr. Karl Bolser of Iowa State University, the program spans eight weeks filled with five structured rotations. These rotations immerse students in multiple facets of veterinary emergency services and specialty procedures, including day shift emergency management, overnight emergency care, technician responsibilities, research initiatives, and specialist clinical work. Participants engage deeply with diverse emergency cases such as toxicology exposures, infectious diseases, and surgical emergencies, honing their clinical skills under professional supervision. This mentorship fosters the development of future veterinary professionals by providing extensive hands-on training and knowledge essential for advanced veterinary practice in emergency and specialty fields.
