Linking Camps and Campers Since 1995
IRMC’s summer programs for pre-med undergraduates and high school students provide a comprehensive introduction to medicine through direct clinical exposure and physician shadowing. These programs operate across multiple medical specialties at IRMC facilities and are tailored for students looking to become doctors. The undergraduate summer internship is an eight-week program requiring full attendance during normal business hours, offering up to 320 clinical hours crucial for fulfilling medical school prerequisites. Only six participants are selected based on eligibility criteria including residency in Indiana or neighboring counties and undergraduate status with medical school aspirations. The high school externship, lasting two weeks, is aimed at rising seniors or recent graduates who want early insight into medical professions, with a focus on surgical and emergency medicine fields. Both initiatives foster professional development through interactive events and provide certificates upon completion. The programs are designed to help students confirm their commitment to a medical career while building valuable experiences for their future medical school applications.
