Linking Camps and Campers Since 1995
At Camp Grimes, scouts have the exclusive opportunity to participate in an Aviation Program that grants the Aviation Merit Badge. The camp curriculum covers essential topics like how airplanes function, airport operations, and air traffic communications. Scouts will learn to pilot drones and use aerial imagery in competitive scenarios such as obstacle courses. An on-site visit to an airport teaches preflight inspections, and with parental approval, scouts may fly a light airplane with a certified instructor. Beyond earning badges, camp attendees receive FAA TRUST certification and can prepare for commercial drone piloting by passing the FAA Part 107 examination. Practical applications include aerial photography for real estate and events. Additionally, the program connects interested scouts to the FAA Young Eagles initiative, offering pathways to pilot training and scholarships. The camp serves young enthusiasts aged 14 and older, with a $150 fee to cover drone ownership costs, and participants also receive a balsa plane kit to enhance their aviation skills.
