Linking Camps and Campers Since 1995
The Burton Family Foundation Summer Health Institute offers an immersive week of health sciences education for high school students passionate about healthcare careers. Hosted jointly by Creighton University and Arizona State University, this camp engages students in realistic medical procedures such as suturing, intubation, and ultrasound imaging, alongside opportunities to interact with healthcare professionals and present research. Emphasizing diversity, the camp seeks to empower students from traditionally underrepresented communities in medicine, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college. The camp’s impact is demonstrated through high college enrollment rates among alumni and their progression into medicine and allied health careers. Financially supported by the Burton Family Foundation, the camp remains accessible to students by covering most costs except travel. Its comprehensive, hands-on approach inspires participants to explore medical professions and helps address the shortage of healthcare workers in the region.
