Located at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor, Maine, Adventures in Healthcare is a specialized four-day overnight camp that offers high school students a chance to discover and experience healthcare professions firsthand. Through engaging and practical activities such as suturing (performed on bananas), casting, spine immobilization, and operating laparoscopic robots, campers gain invaluable hands-on learning. The program features opportunities to participate in wheelchair races, water challenges, and to observe healthcare technologies including x-rays and the chance to ride in a Lifeflight helicopter. This camp exposes students to various roles like registered nursing, biomedical technology, physical therapy, and more, providing a unique, supportive atmosphere to explore healthcare careers. Participants interact with tools used by healthcare professionals, making the experience especially memorable and educational while encouraging career exploration in a dynamic setting.
