Have a Shark Week learning all about one of the ocean’s apex predators. Shark Fest participants may encounter Atlantic sharp nose, bonnethead, blacktip, spinner, hammerhead and bull sharks. Board university research vessels to long line and fish for sharks and participate in shark research. Work alongside USM scientists catching and tagging and releasing sharks. Participants learn shark biology and safe-handling practices for sharks. Students head to the laboratory to learn how to age sharks using shark vertebrae. Have a shark-filled adventure all week. Residential camp participants are housed at USM’s Gulf Park partner the Friendship Oak dorms. Evening activities include ocean science career panel discussions, bonfires on the beach, pool time, cookouts and games.
