CAMP PHILOSOPHY: We know that one of the main reasons parents send their children to camp is to develop real-life skills and self-reliance that will carry over into adulthood. That’s why our focus at Camp Woodmont is on developing relationships among campers, cabin groups, and within the entire camp. At Camp Woodmont, campers interact in ways that foster the development of important life skills and personal growth. Our family-like atmosphere means we can get to know every camper; it gives younger campers a feeling of reassurance and belonging and older campers a chance to grow and contribute in a community of support
STAFF AND TRAINING: Camp owner Jane Bennett, along with her two children, camp directors Tyran Bennett and Alyson Bennett Gondek are year-around, hands-on camp directors with extensive qualifications (see below). We have extensive staff training which we believe is second to none (see below) and we highly recommend that parents should question all camps they entrust their children with about staff hiring and training practices. Camp Woodmont’s philosophy is that the people and staff at the camp and how much they care about the campers and program are the most important factors to look for at a camp.
All counseling staff at Camp Woodmont are college students and undergo extensive interviews, background checks and on-site director-led training including: five days of climbing and high ropes training led by nationally known trainers, a four-day American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certification class led by camp director and Red Cross instructor Tyran Bennett; and Archery certification (again, led by National Archery Association certified instructor Bennett). Both Alyson and Tyran are certified horseback riding instructors and we also send additional staff to a Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) horseback safety clinic. We top off all this specialty training with a full week of camp policy and activities training immediately prior to camp start. The main focus during staff training is on safety as well as on serving and honoring campers.
PROGRAM AND ACTIVITIES: Our top-of-the-line facilities and awesome camp activities include Western Trail Horseback Riding, Climbing Tower/High Ropes Course/523 foot Zip Line, Archery, Canoeing and Fishing at the lake, Arts and Crafts, Cheerleading, Acting/Drama, Dance and Performing Arts, Sports (Basketball, Volleyball, Field Games, Softball, Table Tennis), Swimming pool, Backpacking/Hiking/Wilderness Survival and Adventure, Chess, Low Ropes Challenge Course, Night Programs and much more.
